The images were part of a book, &#8220;New York Is&#8221; which was created for prospective advertisers for the Times. Other photographers like <a href=\"http:\/\/lens.blogs.nytimes.com\/2012\/02\/15\/a-life-fashioning-art\/\">Lillian Bassman<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/10\/29\/arts\/29decarava.html\">Roy DeCarava<\/a> were included in the collection. &#8220;New York Is&#8221; came out the year before Robert Frank&#8217;s masterpiece <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/templates\/story\/story.php?storyId=100688154\">&#8220;The Americans&#8221;<\/a> was released, forever changing the world of photography!
